In the corner of this Japanese garden, which reflects the changing of the seasons, lies the majestic tea house Mu-an. Feel free to come by for some green tea and snacks on your stroll through the garden. We offer two plans: a teicha, tea time option for walk-ins and a tea ceremony option led by Mu-an staff, which requires booking ahead of time. With the tea time option, you can enjoy sitting at a table and being served matcha prepared in the tea preparation area. With the tea ceremony option, you can choose between sitting at a table or on tatami mats. Enjoy immersing yourself in the seasons and culture of Japan.

About the Mu-an Tea House
About the Mu-an Tea House
The Mu-an tea house was originally part of a tea house started by Heihachi Tanaka, who was a trader active from the end of the Edo period into the early Meiji period. HAPPO-EN’s owner at the time was businessman Fusanosuke Kuhara, and he relocated the tea house onto the grounds. Kuhara was a lover of tea and even had a tea ceremony instructor move there from Kyoto and built the seated area now used for tea over a part of the tea house that was originally unfloored, showing how much he cared for and wanted to preserve its charm. You can still feel the heart and charm of the first owner Heihachi Tanaka and the second owner Fusanosuke Kuhara in the ceiling of the tea ceremony space and the tables in the seated area. Enjoy relaxing at the Mu-an tea house and taking in its history, which has been passed down through the generations.
