The teahouse "Mu-an" stands with a dignified presence beside a Japanese garden that changes with the seasons. Feel free to enjoy matcha tea and sweets while strolling through the garden. There are two plans available: "Tei-cha" which anyone can use without making a reservation, and "O-temae" which requires a reservation and where Mu-an staff will demonstrate the tea ceremony in front of you. For "Tei-cha", matcha tea prepared in the Mizuya is served in a "Ryurei-seki" style seating where you sit on a chair. For "O-temae", you can choose between a "Ryurei-seki" style seating where you sit on a chair, or a "Hiro-ma" style seating on tatami mats. Experience Japanese culture along with the four seasons of Japan.

About the tea room "Mu-an"
About the tea room "Mu-an"
The tea room at Mu-an was built by Tanaka Heihachi, a merchant active from the end of the Edo period to the early Meiji period, and was moved here in its original form by businessman Kuhara Fusanosuke, the owner of the land at Happo-en at the time. Kuhara, a great tea lover, brought in a tea master from Kyoto to live in the tea room, and added the current standing seating area to the original dirt floor, preserving the original style of the tea room and taking great care of it. Traces of the attention to detail and style of the first owner, Tanaka Heihachi, and the next owner, Kuhara Fusanosuke, can still be seen today in the ceiling of the hall and the tables of the standing seating area. Please enjoy your time at Mu-an-an, a tea room where you can feel the history that has been passed down from generation to generation.
